HEAD Office

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Size: 6,200 SF

Completed: 2005

The Head Inc. Corporate Office is located south of a runway at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. The architecture borrows its language and its material palette from the disparate site elements—a busy four lane street, north of railway tracks, east of a large truck refueling station and west of a fresh vegetable shipping and receiving terminal. The industrial nature of the neighboring buildings, the airport and the heavy vehicular traffic were distilled into the design.

The Emron finished steel tube trusses are not only exposed but celebrated. The form of the roof gives homage to airplane aerodynamics. LED light fixtures along the sides of the hallway floor are a reminder of the Airport runway lights close by.

The use of glass partition walls allow the materials to interact with one another and allow natural light to filter through the whole space creating an open fluid sense of materials and structure that unify inside the building the difficult and fragmented nature of the outside.
