Denison is a small liberal arts university located in Granville, Ohio. They recognized the need for a common gathering place for student social events to replace the in-dorm gatherings that presented numerous safety challenges.

Moon Hall was designed with continuous input from the student body.  The result is a facility that provides flexible sized gathering spaces that can be reserved for events ranging from weekend parties to formal educational presentations.

Both inside and outside spaces have robust audiovisual and lighting options.  Easy maintenance was a requirement. Finished concrete and concrete block surfaces, contrasted with natural wood trusses, wood paneling, galvanized metal roof, natural stone, and barn siding provide a rich pallet of authentic, maintainable materials.

The building forms and materials were selected to be sympathetic to the rural surrounds of Licking County. Students, faculty and staff all had input and authorship during the design process on forms and colors they considered to be engaging.
