Throughout his career, Joe has addressed projects with a wide range in location and scale; from a three million square-foot College of Science in Kuwait to a two hundred square-foot porch in suburban Columbus. His project type experience also varies widely, including urban-infill residences, hospital expansions, adaptive reuse renovations, industrial / research facilities, higher education buildings, and a multi-use transport terminal in Moscow. Consistent among these projects is a care for the totality of material, scale, and place – often making the most of modest budgets. His design work has been recognized with AIA Columbus and AIA Ohio awards.
After earning his Bachelor of Science at The Ohio State University, Joe worked as a recording engineer at Sisapa Studios in Columbus – an influential time where he was immersed in an environment that fused technical craft, art, and composition. Inspired, he returned to his first love of architecture, pursuing a Master of Architecture at Ohio State, graduating with honors.
Joe heads back to the Knowlton School of Architecture for periodic sessions as an adjunct studio instructor and occasional design critic. He is committed to the ongoing development of the profession, serving on the Boards of Directors for the Center for Architecture and Design and AIA Columbus, where he was the 2017 chapter president.
